The single largest issue with the nation's HVAC systems is wasted energy. 89-million home A/C units waste nearly 212-billion kWh, enough to operate an additional 17-million homes.
Few systems operate at capacity. However, if they do (which is rare), this is only temporary due to the build up filter & coil germs & debris and/or refrigerant leaks.
The efficiency of a HVAC unit is not a fixed number. Not only does it chart downward over its life, but also experiences swings in energy use because of outside temperatures/humidity & dirty filters and coils.
But before any corrections are to be made on a system, a diagnoses needs to be performed to determine if there is a problem and, if so, the severity of the energy waste.
